Theme of the contest was a korean movie.
Char helped me pick 'Windstruck'.Windstruck
"When I'm not around and you feel the wind, don't despair, you will know it's me."
KyungJin looked down at the busy streets way beneath her and took a deep breathe.
There was no one left for her to stay. She's seen too many of her loved ones leave her. She was a jinx who caused their deaths.
"Goodbye, my fucked up life." she closed her eyes and took a brave step forward, letting her body fall with increasing acceleration.
Just then, a big balloon was released into the air and KyungJin fell on it.
Miraculously, the wind carried KyungJin to the ground safely.
--
Minwoo saw the whole balloon-saving scene happen in front of his eyes. He had followed the note to bring the balloon and the wind had snatched it away. He hadn't expected it to actually save KyungJin's life. He silently cursed and scurried off, afraid of being recognized by KyungJin.
--
"Yah! Ko Myungwoo. I told you to be here in 5 mins. how dare u disobey me by taking 5 and a half mins!" KyungJin whacked Myungwoo unreasonably.
The latter sighed in defeat. He barely understood how he had fallen in love for the sassy policewoman whom accused and arrested him several times.
"Must be those handcuffs." he shoke his head as he recalled the time he was stucked handcuffed to KyungJin for one whole day.
"Don't you ever say sorry?" he asked KyungJin irritably, who never once apologized to him.
"Sorry is not in my dictionary. If you want me to say sorry, change your name to 'Sorry' and I'll call you 'Sorry!' " she shrugged.
Myungwoo muttered a "fine." and looked around KyungJin's small but comfortable apartment. He almost burst out laughing as he caught sight of a white grand piano near the balcony. He never thought of her to posses any feminine traits such as piano playing.
He strolled over it and picked up a few photo frames from the top of the piano. There were two KyungJin in different high school uniforms.
"I don't do Photoshop. That's my twin sister." KyungJin explained, seeing his weird expression.
She sat in front of the piano and opened it. All the keys to the piano were white. Not a single black key was seen.
KyungJin grew serious as she placed her hands on the piano to play a piece.
"My sister and I, we were just like the black and white keys. We went to different schools. She was the gentle side of me as I was the rough side of her. After she left, I painted all the keys white."
"How?" Myungwoo couldn't help but ask.
KyungJin's hands stopped in surprised and he thought she was going to hit him.
Instead, "We were mischievous and often exchanged school uniforms. I didn't know then but the reason why KyungJoo enjoyed taking my place in school was this particular guy in class. The same guy I had set my eyes on." she hesitated awhile before continuing.
"That day, KyungJoo had a piano competition to go to. I begged her to take my place for after school duties so I could go on a date with that guy. She agreed and rushed off for the competition after that. She never made it there. A car got to her first." KyungJin hastily got up from the seat and ran into her room, locking herself in to cry.
Myungwoo stared at the closed room door. He didn't need her explaining. He knew all along, and his heart sank as she mentioned that guy both sisters had once loved so deeply.
Lee Minwoo.
--
"The suspect is a highly dangerous criminal. Do not confront him on your own."
KyungJin ignored her superior's instructions from the walkie talkie as usual.
She spotted her target and took out her gun, removing every single bullet from the gun.
She charged hastily at him and shot empty shots at him. He shot back in panic and she didn't avoid.
"Wait for me Myungwoo, I'll find you before you leave me forever."
Yet, no bullets reached her. They simply brush pass her, along with the wind.
She heard a gunshot from behind her and the criminal fell flat on the ground.
--
Minwoo aimed and shot the suspect expertly at the hand and legs, crippling him to the ground.
Without warning, KyungJin fell on the ground and Minwoo felt a push from the back. He caught her before her head touched the ground.
--
She laid on the hospital with her eyes closed and face pale.
"The foolish things you still do." Minwoo brushed a strand of long hair off her face affectionately.
When KyungJin woke up, she found a bowl of pumpkin congee next to her.
"Myungwoo?!" she searched the empty room.
--
"Sounds like someone I know." Minwoo laughed as he heard his cousin's re-enact of his unlucky encounter with a certain policewoman.
"It's not funny if you found yourself fallen in love with her." Myungwoo got up from the seat across the table and attempted to poke Minwoo.
He knocked down a pile of books onto the floor and bent down to pick them.
"KyungJin?" he asked, bewildered by the picture fallen out from one of Minwoo's books.
Minwoo's face changed, he never expected that name to come out from Myungwoo.
"She deserves someone like you. Don't let her go." he patted Myungwoo's back before leaving his office.
"Idiot. You said you love her. And your way of loving was to sacrifice your life to save her. Now, she doesn't want to live either." Minwoo cursed his empty room.
He walked towards his table filled with paper planes.
At that moment, his window flew open and a gush of wind carried another paper plane to him.
"Let her know. You want to protect her too." Minwoo read. He stuffed the paper plane along with the rest into his bag. He was gonna pay his cousin a visit.
--
"You deserve some thrashing. Come-" Minwoo stopped in his tracks as he saw a familiar figure in front of the grave.
Let her know. You want to protect her too.
"You really are an idiot." he cursed silently. He looked in front and wondered if he should go up to her.
Minwoo felt the wind blowing from behind him, urging him to take the step forward.
"Fine. If you want it to be that way." he took a deep breathe before walking up to her.
--
"Minwoo?" KyungJin looked up in surprised.
He nodded his head with a faint smile and sat down next to her.
Not knowing how to start, he passed her his bag.
"Bring the biggest balloon to the tallest building in the city."
"Stop smoking. KyungJin hates it."
"Your criminal is in the alley behind Darth's bar."
"Learn the 10 do's and dont's from my sassy girl."
"Recipe for pumpkin congee is in aunt's drawer."
"Let her know. You want to protect her too."
KyungJin gave a fake snort. She couldn't believe her eyes.
"I was shocked, that day when my cousin barged into the prosecutor's office to tell the story of how he met u. Irrational and violent, you're still the same, KyungJin." Minwoo smiled.
Before KyungJin could reply, a paper plane flew into her hands.
"Open it." Minwoo nudged her, seeing as she merely stared at the paper.
"Kyung Jin, how are you these days?
I hope you're not hurting anymore
I'm always beside you
Remember I told you once
That when you hear me whisper in the wind
You will meet someone with a soul like mine?
Can you feel it? I am near you"
Tears rolled down uncontrollably from her face.
"Myungwoo, sorry!" she called out.
"You don't have to call me that. My name is Myungwoo." the wind whistled in reply.
Minwoo placed his arm around her and pulled her closer for comfort.
"Why did he have to die when I've saved him once already." she sobbed into his clothes.
"He didn't want you to die before him...Shh, Listen to the wind. He will forever be with you." Minwoo stroked the back of her hair.
--
"Maybe I was a wind in my previous life. When I die, I want to become the wind again. When I'm not around and you feel the wind. Don't despair, you know it's me."
"You wanna die? I hate cold weathers."
